We had about 35 ppl attend, and everyone went back for seconds.. We brined him in sugar, salt, lemon and Cajun seasoning, the night before and let me tell you, it made a difference… If you are having second thoughts, Don’t!!! We had never cooked gator, but decided to try it for our Memerial day cook out

Posted by Shawna on Jun 2nd 2022

We had never cooked gator, but decided to try it for our Memerial day cook out. We ordered the medium and it arrived frozen within a couple of days. My husband let it thaw, trimmed the fat out of the tail, brined it, seasoned it, and put it on the Smoker. It was absolutely AMAZING!! It was a huge hit and we will definitely be ordering again. Next time we might have to order 2! The medium fit perfectly in our upright Smoker. If you are on the fence, you absolutely need to try one!

We did additional fat cap removal in the tail and then seasoned and stuffed the alligator

Posted by Jason on May 26th 2022

We did additional fat cap removal in the tail and then seasoned and stuffed the alligator. Alligator weight was about 22lbs. We grilled/smoked the alligator. The meat was tender with a light smokey flavor. The taste and tenderness was excellent! Our experience with the Creole Pantry company was fantastic. We will shop with them again. The online ordering process was smooth with no issues and top notch friendly customer service when calling for an update on the order. Once shipped it arrived in good time. We paid for the 2 day Fedex shipping. Bag containing the product was torn during the shipping process, the cooler was damaged during shipping spreading foam into the alligator. This was the result of the shipping process not a fault of Creole Pantry. Order processing was slower than anticipated. If you want your item to arrive in time to thaw and allow room for soaking and prep, add additional days to the expected shipping time. Ordered the 13th, shipped the 16th, arrived the 18th.

Whole skinned alligator offers a unique taste experience that blends the flavors of chicken and fish, making it a versatile ingredient in various dishes. This article will guide you through the process of preparing and cooking alligator meat, ensuring that you have all the knowledge you need to enjoy this unusual but delicious protein.

Before diving into the cooking methods, it's essential to understand what makes alligator meat unique. Typically sourced from farm-raised alligators, the meat is lean and has a firm texture. It's rich in protein and low in fat, making it a healthy alternative to traditional meats.

Preparing Alligator Meat

Once you have your whole skinned alligator, the first step is preparation. Proper preparation ensures that the meat retains its flavor and texture during cooking.

Thawing and Cleaning

If your alligator is frozen, allow it to thaw in the refrigerator for 24 to 48 hours. Once thawed, rinse the meat under cold water to remove any remaining impurities.

Marinating for Flavor

Marinating is an optional step, but it can enhance the flavor of your alligator meat. Use a mixture of lemon juice, garlic, and spices to create a marinade that complements the meat's natural taste. Let the meat soak for at least two hours or overnight for a more robust flavor.

Cooking Alligator Meat

  3. Place the meat on the grill and cook for 5-7 minutes per side or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
  4. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Frying Alligator Meat

Fried alligator is a favorite in Southern cuisine. Here's how to fry it to perfection:

  1. Cut the meat into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Coat the pieces with flour, salt, and pepper mixture or  Ragin Cajun Alligator Seasoning .
  3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Fry the pieces until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  5. Place on paper towels before serving.

Baking Alligator Meat

Baking is a less traditional method but equally delicious:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Place the seasoned alligator meat in a baking dish.
  3. Cover with foil to retain moisture.
  4. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until the meat is tender and cooked through.
