Central Grocery is the proud home of the Original Muffuletta. Since 1906, we have operated as a third-generation, old-fashioned grocery store on Decatur Street in the French Quarter.

    The flavor is great, but the olives have been left mostly whole, making it difficult to spread on sandwiches. I pulsed it a few times in the food processor and put it back in the jar. Problem solved.

    Central Grocery in New Orleans is famous for their muffalettas. The olive salad is what makes them special. It is chunky and filled with olives and chopped vegetables. I don't like a lot of oil, so I pour off and save about half of the oil, mix it with some vinegar and use it as salad dressing. The olive salad can also be used as an appetizer, but have plenty of bread to dip in the oil We eat the this great product straight from the jar. You won't be disappointed.
