Description

A French Quarter Icon: The Original Muffuletta

Step into a world where the savory scent of cured pork and aged cheeses fills the air, and shelves overflow with imported Italian delicacies. This is Central Grocery, where Salvatore Lupo created the world’s first muffuletta in 1906.

They still do things the old-fashioned way for three generations. Each sandwich is a masterclass in texture and flavor, featuring generous layers of fresh-sliced meats stacked on locally baked, handmade bread. It’s finished with the essential component: Lupo family's proprietary Italian Olive Salad.

Taste the tradition that made Central Grocery famous.

Unit Size: 32oz

Ingredients:  Olives with Pimentos, Oil Blend (Soybean/Extra Virgin Olive Oil), Cauliflower, Carrots, Celery, Kalamata Olives, Red Bell Peppers, Capers, Pepperoncini, Water, Vinegar, Salt, Spices, Garlic and Calcium Chloride, Potassium Sorbate, Lactic Acid, Sodium Bisulfite and Yellow No. 5 as preservatives.

Real tasty but a little hot for my taste. Also too many whole olives. I prefer Aunt Sally's .

There are other Olive Salads out there, but this one is the best. It makes the best tasting muffuletta sandwich you I have ever had.

I like to put the Olive Salad in the Cuisnart to make an olive tapenade for Italian sandwiches

I like to put the Olive Salad in the Cuisnart to make an olive tapenade for Italian sandwiches. The ingredients in the olives salad along with the olive oil it is in creates a great flavor.

Muffuletta sandwiches are not the type of food everyone likes, so I was surprised how much my family (Jersey folks unfamiliar with New Orleans cuisine) loved them! The cost is a bit high, but this is the original olive salad used for Muffuletta, so you know you're making an authentic sandwich. You can use it in other ways, too, but man, those sandwiches are good!
