When the Union navy blockaded the port of New Orleans during the Civil War, the city experienced a coffee shortage. French settlers turned to chicory as a substitute that prolonged their coffee stores, and the local tradition was born.

In my quest to resolve my health issues, I decided to limit coffee consumption. I found New Orleans Roast Chicory and fell in love with the bold taste. Even with an increase in price from last time I purchased this, the value for 5 lbs bag is still good, however the shipping cost is very high and this lessens the deal overall. I use 2 tablespoons of chicory and 0.5 teaspoon of regular organic coffee in the morning or just chicory in the afternoon with coconut/almond creamer. I wish they would offer organic chicory as well.

I have ordered twice from New Orleans Roast and been pleased both times. I order 15 pounds of chicory at a time and mix it with my coffee. The bags it comes in keep it fresh for for a long time.
