Description
A French Quarter Icon: The Original Muffuletta
Step into a world where the savory scent of cured pork and aged cheeses fills the air, and shelves overflow with imported Italian delicacies. This is Central Grocery, where Salvatore Lupo created the world’s first muffuletta in 1906.
They still do things the old-fashioned way for three generations. Each sandwich is a masterclass in texture and flavor, featuring generous layers of fresh-sliced meats stacked on locally baked, handmade bread. It’s finished with the essential component: Lupo family's proprietary Italian Olive Salad.
Taste the tradition that made Central Grocery famous.
Unit Size: 32oz

I have been wanting to try olive salad for some time now, and only after recently watching a video involving muffaletta on YouTube did I decide to finally snag some. I was a little wary about the $20+ price tag, but I have to say that it's probably worth it. As soon as I unwrapped the jar from its packaging, I grabbed a fork and took a little taste test even though it was at room temperature... I was pleasantly surprised, even though most of what was on top was green olives. Once I get deeper in the jar, I'll get a better assortment of things, but I already enjoy it. I have a store-bought jar of olive salad, and it doesn't even remotely compare to Central Grocery's product. The store-bought uses canola oil in addition to olive oil, so it has this very oily, greasy consistency, which I didn't find that Central Grocery's product had with its soybean oil/olive oil mix. From first impressions, this is definitely something I would purchase again; I have been using olive salad on everything lately, and now that I have a quality salad, my food is going to taste that much better. Also, very quick shipping; I chose the free shipping option, and it still arrived only 3 days after placing the order. My one complaint is that there is no internal seal between the lid and the jar, and as such quite a bit of oil leaked out of the jar so it was a little messy unpackaging it. But, while unwrapping the bubble wrap (which there was plenty of; I don't think USPS could have broken the jar if they had tried to), all that leaked oil did make it smell delicious, so I guess it wasn't all bad.Delicious product, speedy shipping, lots of packaging material... would definitely purchase again, no question about it.

This stuff is always awesome
This stuff is always awesome. I always have at least one jar of it in the fridge for the wife. I don't like Olives, but I love this stuff on my Subway sandwich. I would pour it on a tarp and roll around in it if it weren't so expensive. Next time I'm in New Orleans will check the price in Central Grocery.
