When the Union navy blockaded the port of New Orleans during the Civil War, the city experienced a coffee shortage. French settlers turned to chicory as a substitute that prolonged their coffee stores, and the local tradition was born.

    Taste is bold and complex, a great alternative to coffee while I'm quitting caffeine. I steep mine in boiled water for 5 minutes, then add sugar and oatmilk. Also I've found adding salt to it greatly improves the bitterness & complexity of the flavor, to the point that it tastes dark & caramely. Great brand, 10/10

    I wanted to find a beverage that was similar in taste to coffee and that had no caffeine. I have to say I have really enjoyed drinking this chicory. The taste is smooth and great as a coffee substitute. My husband usually makes half caffeine coffee and is now using chicory in place of decaf coffee. He loves dark, strong coffee and I drink light roast. This is one product that satisfies both our tastes.
