Description
Caluda's Cream Cheese King Cake is a traditional Mardi Gras dessert with a twist. Instead of the usual sweet dough filled with cinnamon and sugar, this king cake is made with a rich, creamy cream cheese filling. The cake is then topped with a generous layer of icing and sprinkles, but in a unique twist, the icing is served on the side so that each person can customize the amount of sweetness to their preference. The outside of the cake is golden and flaky, while the inside is soft and indulgent. This king cake is a delicious and indulgent way to celebrate Mardi Gras or any special occasion.
King cakes are a traditional pastry that are popular in New Orleans during the Carnival season, which begins on Twelfth Night (the evening of January 5) and ends on Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday). The best part of a king cake is a matter of personal preference, but many people enjoy the following aspects of this delicious treat:
The flavor: King cakes are made with sweet, buttery dough that is flavored with cinnamon and nutmeg.
The decorations: King cakes are decorated with colorful icing and sprinkles in the traditional Mardi Gras colors of purple, green, and gold. Some bakeries also get creative with the decorations. (Icing and sugar will be on the side and you can spread it as needed on top of the bread)
The tradition: A small plastic baby (representing the Baby Jesus) is hidden inside the king cake. According to tradition, the person who finds the baby in their slice of cake is responsible for purchasing or making the next king cake, or for hosting the next party. This adds an element of fun and surprise to the experience of eating a king cake.
The community aspect: In New Orleans, it is common for people to gather and eat king cakes together, often in the context of a party or celebration. Sharing a king cake with friends and family can be a memorable and enjoyable experience.
Overall, the best part of a king cake from New Orleans is the combination of its delicious flavor, festive decorations, rich tradition, and communal aspect.

Purchased to have a taste of home for a family event
Purchased to have a taste of home for a family event. We can find King Cakes up here, no one has piped in filled King Cake. It was a special treat to have a Caluda's cream cheese filled. Good amount of filling. Nice we could control the amount of icing and sugar. We weren't sure about icing and sugaring ourselves, was easy.It seems like other King Cakes we've had shipped usually have a smooshed icing area from shipping. Icing and sugaring after arrival avoids shipping blemishes. Though our order was outside King Cake season, it was nice to be able to share King Cake with others outside of the season. Came with a baby and beads. Good flavor.

I ordered a cream cheese king cake for my daughter living out of town, she told me when she opened the box the smells of home came rushing to her and she said the first bite brought tears to her eyes! She was able to share and then explain Mardi Gras to her Texas friends.

It was so nice to bring a piece of my old home New Orleans to my new home Pittsburgh, and share the delicious joys of carnival and tradition
It was so nice to bring a piece of my old home New Orleans to my new home Pittsburgh, and share the delicious joys of carnival and tradition. Caluda's never disappoints. I worked at Pelican State Outpatient Urgent Care, next door, during the pandemic and they would bring us king cake to thank us for what we did for the community. They were kind neighbors and great bakers!

This cake was delicious
This cake was delicious. I ordered it for a gathering that was postponed by a week, so I had to freeze it. Nevertheless it was quite tasty and I'd certainly order it again. Everyone at the gathering commented on how good the cake was.

Wow. That was the best King Cake I’ve ever had. Far better than all the cakes I ate when I lived in NOLA. IT WAS WORTH IT.

I highly recommend ordering a Caluda’s cream cheese King Cake from CreoleFood
I highly recommend ordering a Caluda’s cream cheese King Cake from CreoleFood.com. The cakes arrived by FedEx on time, intact, fresh and delicious. The icing was separate, which is a great idea and the recipients liked decorating the cake as a fun activity. After shopping around I found this to be a good value for my money and will certainly order again next year.
