Here are some general guidelines for cooking a whole-skinned alligator.

Start with:

  • Alligator is a lean meat so you want to make sure you are keeping it moist.

  • Brine or marinate the alligator overnight.

  • Season the alligator any seasoning can be used (we have several to choose from on our site). You can coat the alligator with butter or a basting spray to help the seasoning set.  (Wrapping the alligator in bacon is an option bacon fat helps keep it moist while cooking)

  • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (250-275 degrees) and lightly oil the grates.

  • Place the alligator on the grill and cook for about 2-4 hours, or until the meat is cooked through and lightly charred. (Cooking time will depend on the type of grill you are using and the size of the alligator.

  • To ensure that the alligator is cooked evenly, use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the meat. The alligator is done when the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Bought the Alligator for my husbands cravings. Living in the Southwest of Texas, we don't see much of this type of meals. So my husband was the talk of his birthday party. He did what he does best and smoked that baby.. It came out absolutely delicious, lots of meat, I was surprised by that. Thank you and my husband, his friends and I are a very satisficed customers.

Absolutely Amazing!!! We had an alligator party for my 9 year old little girl… she wanted everything gator.we ordered the balls, bites, nuggets, and the medium whole alligator and served up a good old fashioned crawfish boil. It was an absolute hit!! There was nothing left on him except his feet and head, and the kids had a time asking for those!! I wish I could post a picture, because he turned out amazing!! We had about 35 ppl attend, and everyone went back for seconds.. We brined him in sugar, salt, lemon and Cajun seasoning, the night before and let me tell you, it made a difference… If you are having second thoughts, Don’t!!! This is our new go to meat, and we will continue to buy more! Thank you Creole foods for making my little girls 9th Birthday number 1 in her books!!

We had never cooked gator, but decided to try it for our Memerial day cook out

Posted by Shawna on Jun 2nd 2022

We had never cooked gator, but decided to try it for our Memerial day cook out. We ordered the medium and it arrived frozen within a couple of days. My husband let it thaw, trimmed the fat out of the tail, brined it, seasoned it, and put it on the Smoker. It was absolutely AMAZING!! It was a huge hit and we will definitely be ordering again. Next time we might have to order 2! The medium fit perfectly in our upright Smoker. If you are on the fence, you absolutely need to try one!
