Description

Rice, seafood and seasonings repeatedly appear in the foods of South Louisiana. Jambalaya is a rice main dish made with almost any meat or seafood and most often combines several kinds of each. Highly seasoned with onions, herbs and pepper, it is a delicious way to serve bits of leftover meats. Long ago, jambalaya was cooked outdoors in large, black iron pots over open flames and stirred with boat paddles. This is true even today at many of the fairs and festivals of the area. I am the fundraiser for a Mardi Gras Krewe here in Houston. Oak Grove is the only mix that I will use at our fundraisers when we serve Jambalaya or Dirty Rice. I do add a little more meat to it than the recipe calls for and we always have people come back for seconds and thirds and some that want to take the leftovers home.

This is our favorite jambalaya mix. It has been hard to find in stores the last few years and I was so excited to find it here. We love the blend of spices. It’s so tasty. Our favorite proteins to add are chicken and smoked sausage, but we’ve tried ground beef and shrimp as suggested too. It’s all good. Great quick and easy one pot week night meal. Will definitely be back for more!!
