Description

Caluda's Praline Filling King Cake is a twist on the traditional Mardi Gras dessert, featuring a rich and creamy praline filling instead of the usual cinnamon and sugar. The cake is made with a soft, fluffy dough and topped with a layer of icing and sprinkles, but in a unique twist, the icing is served on the side so that each person can customize the sweetness to their preference. The outside of the cake is golden and flaky, while the inside is bursting with the flavors of creamy praline and buttery caramel. This king cake is a decadent and indulgent way to celebrate Mardi Gras or any special occasion.

King cakes are a traditional pastry that are popular in New Orleans during the Carnival season, which begins on Twelfth Night (the evening of January 5) and ends on Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday). The best part of a king cake is a matter of personal preference, but many people enjoy the following aspects of this delicious treat:

  1. The flavor: King cakes are made with sweet, buttery dough that is flavored with cinnamon and nutmeg.

  2. The decorations: King cakes are decorated with colorful icing and sprinkles in the traditional Mardi Gras colors of purple, green, and gold. Some bakeries also get creative with the decorations. (Icing and sugar will be on the side and you can spread it as needed on top of the bread)

  3. The tradition: A small plastic baby (representing the Baby Jesus) is hidden inside the king cake. According to tradition, the person who finds the baby in their slice of cake is responsible for purchasing or making the next king cake, or for hosting the next party. This adds an element of fun and surprise to the experience of eating a king cake.

  4. The community aspect: In New Orleans, it is common for people to gather and eat king cakes together, often in the context of a party or celebration. Sharing a king cake with friends and family can be a memorable and enjoyable experience.

Overall, the best part of a king cake from New Orleans is the combination of its delicious flavor, festive decorations, rich tradition, and communal aspect.

While visiting my daughter in Ohio over the Mardi Gras Holiday, I ordered a Pecan Praline King Cake from Creole Foods (Caluda's King Cakes/Cottage Cat

While visiting my daughter in Ohio over the Mardi Gras Holiday, I ordered a Pecan Praline King Cake from Creole Foods (Caluda's King Cakes/Cottage Catering). I have purchased King Cakes from their local bakery also. The King Cake arrived within a week with the icing on the side and instructions for putting the icing on the King Cake. We waited several days to put the icing and sprinkles on the cake because we were sick. After my daughter put the icing and sprinkles on, the cake was still so fresh and it was just like getting one right out of the Caluda's bakery! I won't hesitate to order one for out of town again. Caluda's (Creole Foods) are my favorite King Cakes!!

My daughter's birthday fell on Mardi Grasher first year away from home in college

Posted by Lisa Thomas on Feb 19th 2024

My daughter's birthday fell on Mardi Grasher first year away from home in college. I ordered 1 and forgot to add her college's address. Realizing that in about an hour, I called to change the address. Too bad, cake had already shipped. The phone rep Sherri was so sweet, I ordered another one online and checked on it the next day to see if it would get there on time. She checked on the shipping and gave me a call back to let me know that it will make there on time. All in all, the cake was phenomenal customer service was great! If you know, you know some king cakes tend to taste like bread. No mam...I have not had a piece of king cake that good and moist since I was a child. Thank you, Creole Foods!

It seemed a little stale, but the taste was good and it wasn't all messed up since the icing was sealed on the side

We are from southern Louisiana and now live in Maine. I’m so happy Creole Foods had king cake! It’s not as much filling inside like the king cakes I was used to but it was definitely delicious! Already planning on ordering another one next year!

We are in New York after having moved from New Orleans

We are in New York after having moved from New Orleans. I searched and found this merchant 2 days before my youngest son's 6th birthday on Feb 23. I had reservations and doubts that the 2 day delivery would provide us a King Cake as his actual birthday cake in Feb 25. However we were very delighted to receive the cake in excellent condition, fresh, and with icing and sprinkles packaged separately! I would recommend them. We are now ordering a 2nd one and indeed after Mardi Gras.

The king cake arrived in perfect condition. It was fun decorating it. Last but not least it was scrumptious and the praline filling was excellent. Definitely will buy again next year.

I found the baby last year and planned since then to purchase one from Creole Foods this year - it was a huge hit at my office

I found the baby last year and planned since then to purchase one from Creole Foods this year - it was a huge hit at my office. I was so happy it was still moist after having been in my fridge for about a week. I saw yesterday that someone creatively "missed" finding the baby. I have no qualms about "finding" it today in order to buy another next year. ;)
