My mother's recipe takes hours to make and it makes a lot

My mother's recipe takes hours to make and it makes a lot. (we use a hambone instead of sausage BTW) Blue Runner is as close to my mother's that I have ever had. I usually just add a little Tabasco to it along with some pieces of ham and the pour it over rice. Along with some French bread.....you have the perfect meal. I am Mississippi born and Louisiana bred and I have had lots of Red Beans and Rice. This is very very good.

    These beans are delicious

These beans are delicious. I saute onions and smoked sausage, add the beans and serve over rice. My whole family loves it. My sister who lives in New Orleans recommended them as the best and they've been great.

I grew up in New Orleans, my mama cooked Red Beans and Rice at least once a week. (I used to hate it!) But oddly enough now I can't get enough of her Red Beans and Rice when we visit. Once we were home visiting and she had Red Beans in the crock pot ready for us when we arrived. I couldn't believe how good they were, she said "I have a confession. I didn't make these. These are canned beans and all I did was add some sausage and Tony's". I have been hooked ever since. She just sent me a 12 pack for my birthday. The white beans are just as good. I add them to my taco soup, or serve over brown rice. Superb!I try not to eat much meat so I don't even bother with the sausage.. I do add some liquid smoke though and sometimes if I have time I add the trilogy minced..(onions, bells and celery). But it taste totally fine without it.

I did a lot of research and Blue Runner lived up to it's reputation

I did a lot of research and Blue Runner lived up to it's reputation. It's not homemade red beans but in a pinch when you want some and don't have time to make them from scratch they are pretty good.

BLUE RUNNER BEANS ARE, IN MY...AND MY WIFE'S(AND SHE'S FROM NEW ORLEANS) OPINION, THE VERY BEST RED BEANS WE HAVE EVER EATEN. THEY ARE SEASONED SO WELL THAT YOU REALLY DON'T HAVE TO EVEN ADD SALT. JUST HEAT THEM UP AND POUR THEM OVER A PLATE OF WHITE RICE, AND THAT'S IT. THESE BEANS ARE SO TASTY THAT I HAVE MY WIFE COOK THE SMOKED SAUSAGE SEPARATE FROM THE BEANS AND SERVE IT ON THE SIDE. BLUE RUNNER BEANS...YUM YUM!!

    These red beans are excellent

Posted by Mike in MA on Mar 22nd 2011

These red beans are excellent. I grew up in Louisiana near New Orleans and occasionally cook my own red beans -- these are every bit as good and a whole lot quicker. I usually fry up some sliced pork sausage (I like the Hillshire Farms Kielbasa or Hot Links) in a skillet, drain the excess grease and then add the sausage to a pot of the beans. Serve over rice for a delicious, quick and easy meal. Big thumbs up!
