Description
Central Grocery is the Home of the Original Muffuletta. Located on Decatur Street in the middle of New Orleans’ French Quarter, they are a third generation, old-fashioned grocery store founded in 1906 by Salvatore Lupo, a Sicilian immigrant who is famous for creating the muffuletta. Lined with shelves stocked with imported pasta and olive oil as the aroma of cured pork and aged cheeses fill the air, the shop hasn’t changed over the years. They always make their muffulettas with meats sliced in house, locally baked handmade bread and THIS the family’s Italian Olive Salad. Enjoy your own taste of New Orleans!
Unit Size: 32oz
Ingredients: Olives with Pimentos, Oil Blend (Soybean/Extra Virgin Olive Oil), Cauliflower, Carrots, Celery, Kalamata Olives, Red Bell Peppers, Capers, Pepperoncini, Water, Vinegar, Salt, Spices, Garlic and Calcium Chloride, Potassium Sorbate, Lactic Acid, Sodium Bisulfite and Yellow No. 5 as preservatives.

This was one of those Covid-era purchases - "hey let's make a muffuletta at home!" We were a little bit nervous about how it would taste. It's olives and olive oil with a vegetable mix - high quality ingredients - but it's not a cheap jar.The salad is delicious. Not too spicy, great unctuous flavors of olive, onion, garlic, and oil. And it made a perfect spread for our sandwich. We bought sopressata, mortadella, salami, capicolla, provolone, and mozzarella. Put it all together, heat it up in the oven-covered in foil for a half hour, and then let it sit for a half hour so that it all becomes one holistic oily bite.My only advice is let the oil drain out of the ingredients a little before putting it on the sandwich. We made that mistake the first time, it meant that the bottom of the bread got a little bit soaked when the heat rendered the oil. Still tasted great.Highest recommendation. And go with the Central Grocery brand, they're doing it right.
