Description

Central Grocery is the Home of the Original Muffuletta. Located on Decatur Street in the middle of New Orleans’ French Quarter, they are a third generation, old-fashioned grocery store founded in 1906 by Salvatore Lupo, a Sicilian immigrant who is famous for creating the muffuletta. Lined with shelves stocked with imported pasta and olive oil as the aroma of cured pork and aged cheeses fill the air, the shop hasn’t changed over the years. They always make their muffulettas with meats sliced in house, locally baked handmade bread and THIS the family’s Italian Olive Salad. Enjoy your own taste of New Orleans!

Unit Size: 32oz

Ingredients:  Olives with Pimentos, Oil Blend (Soybean/Extra Virgin Olive Oil), Cauliflower, Carrots, Celery, Kalamata Olives, Red Bell Peppers, Capers, Pepperoncini, Water, Vinegar, Salt, Spices, Garlic and Calcium Chloride, Potassium Sorbate, Lactic Acid, Sodium Bisulfite and Yellow No. 5 as preservatives.

I liked the taste but there are many extra large whole olives and even 3 inch piece of broccoli

Posted by lewtus on Sep 13th 2021

I liked the taste but there are many extra large whole olives and even 3 inch piece of broccoli... I had to chop up 30 % of the jar. I've been to Central market for the muffaleta and it's not the same consistency at all.

We love this olive salad! It is not too salty, and the olive combination is perfect

Posted by The Cook on Aug 24th 2021

We love this olive salad! It is not too salty, and the olive combination is perfect. Just note that the jar arrives a little oily, although it is banded on the outside of the lid, there is no inner seal. So if you order it and it goes in the same box with something that might get oil on it, you might want to order it by itself. But, all in all, it’s worth it!

I have been to Central Grovery in NOLA and had their muffalata

I have been to Central Grovery in NOLA and had their muffalata. No need to spend the airfare. I have also used the salad as in ingredient in a chimichuri type sauce whirled in a food processor with lemon, sherry vinegar and parsley. Can't ever live without this amazing product.

Varied use like for sandwiches, salads etc

Posted by Big B on Aug 3rd 2021

Varied use like for sandwiches, salads etc. Only difficulty is sometimes the oil leaks a little but its wrapped in plastic and inside a small box so I've never had problems with it getting on any other items in the box that were also ordered.

This formulation is made by the City Grocery in New Orleans, a traditional home of the muffaletta

Posted by Tony on Aug 2nd 2021

This formulation is made by the City Grocery in New Orleans, a traditional home of the muffaletta. I have tried other brands and they are not as favorable. Of all the olive salads I have tried I must say this one has the most olive oil. When I make my muffalettas I drain most of the oil off with a strainer and that does not detract from the flavor one iota. Of all the olive salad spreads I have tried, this is the best.
