Description
Central Grocery is the Home of the Original Muffuletta. Located on Decatur Street in the middle of New Orleans’ French Quarter, they are a third generation, old-fashioned grocery store founded in 1906 by Salvatore Lupo, a Sicilian immigrant who is famous for creating the muffuletta. Lined with shelves stocked with imported pasta and olive oil as the aroma of cured pork and aged cheeses fill the air, the shop hasn’t changed over the years. They always make their muffulettas with meats sliced in house, locally baked handmade bread and THIS the family’s Italian Olive Salad. Enjoy your own taste of New Orleans!
Unit Size: 32oz
Ingredients: Olives with Pimentos, Oil Blend (Soybean/Extra Virgin Olive Oil), Cauliflower, Carrots, Celery, Kalamata Olives, Red Bell Peppers, Capers, Pepperoncini, Water, Vinegar, Salt, Spices, Garlic and Calcium Chloride, Potassium Sorbate, Lactic Acid, Sodium Bisulfite and Yellow No. 5 as preservatives.

We have been buying this product for many decades
We have been buying this product for many decades. Have tried other olive salads but Central Grocery is still the best.

This was just like being in NOLA having a muffaletta, tastewise
This was just like being in NOLA having a muffaletta, tastewise. My only complaint is that the olives in the jar are not chopped as small as the rest of the ingredients. Whole olives don't fit in a sandwich. I had to find each olive in the jar and cut it several times, a time consuming effort. HOWEVER, I will reorder when the jar is empty.

We got the sandwich in New Orleans and then bought the olive salad immediately thereafter
We got the sandwich in New Orleans and then bought the olive salad immediately thereafter. Didn't want fly with a glass jar. Super awesome. Wished there was a smaller jar option. Don't know how long it'll take us to eat it all...

It was easy locating the exact product I was looking for, and delivery was incredibly fast--even though it was in the middle of holiday shipping season. The olive salad was greatly appreciated by the recipient!

Native New Orleanean here:I never used to like olives
Native New Orleanean here:I never used to like olives. Then I had a Muffaletta from the Central grocery. The olive salad paired with the meat and cheese and the olive oil soaking into the bread, OMG...delicious! From this mix, I developed a taste for olives. Fast forward a few years. So, my dad buys me a jar of this stuff for my birthday a couple months back and I opened it up to put some on a salad I was making. I took a spoonful straight out of the jar and ate it before I put it on the salad and just WOW! It blows away the olives I usually use for my salad. The mix of ingredients and flavorings just transcends any other olive mix...this stuff is AMAZING. Laissez les bons temps rouler...bon appetite.

Since the reviews for this product and the Boscoli brand seemed contradictory, I bought both and did a side-by-side blind taste test
Since the reviews for this product and the Boscoli brand seemed contradictory, I bought both and did a side-by-side blind taste test. All 16 of the testers picked the Central Grocery brand as being the best tasting. The olive oil was bright and did not muddle the flavors of the vegetables and olives like the oil blend did in the Boscoli brand. The flavors in the Boscoli were just "off", and Central Grocery was the clear winner!

I decided to try making my own veggie muffaletta using veggie ham substitute, cheese, ciabatta bread, and Central Grocery Olive Salad
I decided to try making my own veggie muffaletta using veggie ham substitute, cheese, ciabatta bread, and Central Grocery Olive Salad. I'm very happy with the flavor of this olive salad and the general outcome of the muffaletta. My one small complaint is that the salad contains some whole olives, and they don't work very well as a sandwich spread. With that said, chopping up the few whole olives that I spoon out into smaller bits is easy enough to do.
How ‘bout addin’ a little lagniappe to your order?
