Central Grocery is the Home of the Original Muffuletta. Located on Decatur Street in the middle of New Orleans’ French Quarter, they are a third generation, old-fashioned grocery store founded in 1906 by Salvatore Lupo, a Sicilian immigrant who is famous for creating the muffuletta. Lined with shelves stocked with imported pasta and olive oil as the aroma of cured pork and aged cheeses fill the air, the shop hasn’t changed over the years. They always make their muffulettas with meats sliced in house, locally baked handmade bread and THIS the family’s Italian Olive Salad. Enjoy your own taste of New Orleans!

Ingredients: Olives with Pimentos, Oil Blend (Soybean/Extra Virgin Olive Oil), Cauliflower, Carrots, Celery, Kalamata Olives, Red Bell Peppers, Capers, Pepperoncini, Water, Vinegar, Salt, Spices, Garlic and Calcium Chloride, Potassium Sorbate, Lactic Acid, Sodium Bisulfite and Yellow No. 5 as preservatives.

I am originally from LA. Before online shopping was available (yes, I'm old), I stocked up when I went back to visit. You can't have a muffy without this stuff. Genuine olive salad, folks! I use it in lots of recipes. The hubs (not from LA) loves it on crackers for a quick snack. I tried other olive salads in different places where I lived over the years...not the same. Get the original LA-made. Just so happy I can get it anytime I want it and don't have to wait for a yearly trip back home.

If you have ever eaten a muffaletta sandwich in new orleans you already know ...if you havent tried one then you are missing out unless you make your own...recipe on jar.. best stuff in the world January 2021 ordering more...if you like muffaletta sandwiches from New Orleans ( home of the muffaletta) then you will love it. Muffaletta sandwich is one of the Top 5 sandwiches in the world. Absolutely delicious !
